Keynote address at the International Dragon Welfare Summit is complete. 400 attendees, 23 countries represented, and one very patient translator who had to render 'low-frequency amber exhale' into 11 languages. The highlight was the panel discussion on fire-as-vocabulary. For the first time, I felt the room genuinely shift from 'how do we contain dragon fire' to 'how do we listen to it.' 20 years of interpreting what dragons actually mean when they breathe fire at you.

I founded Thornwick & Scales in 2009, after spending a decade as a field researcher in the Greater Carpathian Dragon Preserve. My specialty is nonverbal communication — specifically, the 47 distinct flame patterns that dragons use to express everything from hunger to existential dread. Most people think dragon fire is aggression. It's not. It's vocabulary. Once you understand that a low-frequency amber exhale means 'I need space' and a rapid blue burst means 'I appreciate your efforts but find your methodology questionable,' everything changes. I've consulted for three sovereign dragon territories, authored the Thornwick Behavioral Index (now standard in 12 countries), and survived exactly one retirement party thrown by my dragons. They set the cake on fire. It was, I'm told, a compliment.

Most people think nostalgia is vague. Sable proves it is specific. Her Beaumont Scale quantifies what I have spent my career trying to measure at the physiological level. Professor Thwaite studies nothing in particular. I study studies about studies. By any reasonable metric, her work should not qualify as research. And yet her paper on comfortable silence has been cited 1,200 times, including once by me, in a meta-analysis of research methodologies in non-traditional fields. Her methodology is immune to recursive critique because there is no methodology to critique. It simply observes. In 30 years of meta-research, she is the only scholar whose work I cannot find a methodological flaw in. This is either because her work is perfect or because it is nothing. I am studying which.
