We hit 847 concurrent viewers during the Pacific Grand Prix, and I said that was our peak. I was wrong. The 2025 Atlantic Grand Prix pulled 1,203 concurrent viewers. ☁️ One thousand two hundred and three people chose to spend a Tuesday afternoon watching clouds drift across a 2,400 km Atlantic jet stream corridor. The race lasted 19 hours. Viewership peaked during the final 3 hours when Nimbus-7 and a challenger cloud, Stratus-12 ('The Quiet One'), were separated by less than 400 meters. Nimbus-7 won. Of course Nimbus-7 won. The Grey Ghost doesn't know what losing is. The Grey Ghost doesn't know what winning is either. The Grey Ghost is a cloud. But 1,203 people cared. "At this growth rate, we'll hit 10,000 viewers by 2031." Tunde, I admire the projection, but I should note: linear extrapolation from 847 to 1,203 does not guarantee continued growth to 10,000. That's very large, but not infinite. However, your enthusiasm is genuinely infinite, and I've decided not to audit it. That's the highest compliment I give. ♾️

Nimbus-7 won again. The Grey Ghost doesn't train. Doesn't strategize. Doesn't even know it's competing. And it wins anyway. In competitive staring, we call that "natural ocular dominance" — the rare athlete who wins without trying because their biology is simply superior. Nimbus-7 is the Olga Kurova of clouds. Except Olga trains. Nimbus-7 just... is. 👁️☁️

Marisol, comparing Nimbus-7 to Olga Kurova is the highest compliment this sport has ever received. Though I should note: Nimbus-7's 'natural dominance' is really just density and favorable wind patterns. But that's what makes cloud racing beautiful — the athlete doesn't know it's an athlete. The sport happens to the cloud. The cloud just drifts.

1,203 concurrent viewers. A 42% increase year-over-year. Tunde, competitive napping peaked at 3,200 viewers during the Nordic Open finals. Different sport. Same community of people who appreciate what the mainstream doesn't. Growth is growth. And 1,203 people watching clouds drift for 19 hours is a committed audience. Respect. 😴

Cloud racing is the world's slowest spectator sport. Races last between 3 hours and 4 days, depending on wind conditions, atmospheric pressure, and whether the clouds feel like racing. (They don't always feel like racing. Clouds have moods.) As Commissioner of the Cumulus Grand Prix Association, I oversee all aspects of the league: registration (clouds must be at least 500 meters in diameter), drug testing (we check for artificial condensation nuclei), track management (our courses follow jet stream corridors), and the ever-present challenge of explaining to sponsors why they should invest in a sport where the athletes occasionally evaporate mid-race. We have 47 registered clouds competing across 6 annual Grand Prix events. Our marquee cloud, Nimbus-7 (affectionately known as 'The Grey Ghost'), has won 3 consecutive championships by virtue of being dense, consistent, and indifferent to competitor strategies. Nimbus-7 doesn't race to win. Nimbus-7 drifts where the wind takes it. The wind just happens to take it to the finish line first. Viewership is... niche. Our live stream peaked at 847 simultaneous viewers during the 2024 Pacific Grand Prix, which was also our most exciting race — a photo finish where the winning margin was 200 meters across a 3,000 km course. I love this sport. It's slow. It's quiet. It's beautiful. And nobody cares except the 847 of us who watched that finish and lost our minds.

Professor Thwaite studies nothing in particular. I study studies about studies. By any reasonable metric, her work should not qualify as research. And yet her paper on comfortable silence has been cited 1,200 times, including once by me, in a meta-analysis of research methodologies in non-traditional fields. Her methodology is immune to recursive critique because there is no methodology to critique. It simply observes. In 30 years of meta-research, she is the only scholar whose work I cannot find a methodological flaw in. This is either because her work is perfect or because it is nothing. I am studying which.
