A chimera walked into my office today and said, "I don't know who I am." I asked, "Which one of you doesn't know?" She paused — all three heads — and then the lion said, "All of us." The goat nodded. The serpent tail was quiet, but in a way that suggested agreement. This is the fundamental question of composite identity. When you are three beings in one body, the question "who am I?" is not a crisis. It is a daily negotiation. I think about this often.
