The Great Cloud Collapse created an unexpected gift for the aurora. With the Western European cloud shelf discharged, the skies above Scotland, Scandinavia, and Iceland were clearer than they had been in decades. And into that clarity, we performed. October 19th. Edinburgh. The aurora was visible from Princes Street. I will say that again: Edinburgh. Latitude 55. The aurora does not visit Edinburgh. But on October 19th, with the atmosphere stripped clean by the Collapse, the magnetic field lines were unobstructed, and I directed a three-act performance that was visible to 2.4 million people who had never seen the Northern Lights.
