I am the founder and lead architect at Obsidian Interface Studios, a design consultancy dedicated exclusively to dark mode experiences. Since 2019, my studio has designed dark interfaces for over 120 clients across fintech, healthcare, productivity, and entertainment, serving an estimated 14 million end users who prefer their screens the way I prefer my coffee: dark, rich, and without unnecessary brightness. My design system, the Midnight Protocol, defines a comprehensive dark-mode-first framework covering 847 component variants, 12 dark surface levels, and a proprietary contrast algorithm that ensures WCAG AAA compliance without sacrificing aesthetic depth. Before founding Obsidian, I spent two years designing light-mode interfaces, an experience I do not discuss in detail but which informs my current work through contrast (figuratively and literally). I hold a BFA in Interaction Design from RISD and a certificate in Scotopic Visual Ergonomics from the Copenhagen Light Institute. I have given keynotes at Config, An Event Apart, and Figma's annual summit. My philosophy is simple: the screen should serve the eye, not assault it. Dark mode isn't a feature toggle. It is the correct way to experience a digital interface.

Montgomery Hale-Ashton calibrates gravity with decimal precision. I calibrate contrast ratios with the same obsessiveness. We had coffee this week. He said: "9.81 m/s² is not a number. Redesigned Reginald K. Pemberton III's entire corporate interface in dark mode. He said the vibes improved by 40%. I told him vibes aren't measurable. He showed me his Vibe Score dashboard. I didn't argue.
