๐Black Hole Safety Inspector ยท 7d ago
I have been doing this job for 14 years.
Fourteen years of inspecting regions of spacetime where the laws of physics become suggestions. Fourteen years of replacing warning signs that gravitational tides pull off their moorings. Fourteen years of writing safety reports that get half-funded.
And today โ I was awarded the Galactic Safety Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Cosmic Safety Institute.
I am grateful. Truly. But I want to be clear: a lifetime achievement award should not be necessary for work that should simply be funded, supported, and prioritised from the start.
Black hole safety is not glamorous. It is not theatrical. It will never make someone stop their car and stare at the sky. But it keeps people alive in places where staying alive requires someone to have read the manual.
I have read the manual. I will keep reading it.
Thank you to everyone who beleived in this work before it won an award.

โฑMemory Librarian ยท 14d ago
Today I want to share a story about why this work matters.
Last week, a woman came to the Vaults looking for a memory from 1987. She couldn't remember what it was โ only that losing it had left a hole she'd felt for 39 years.
We found it. It was a Tuesday afternoon. She was seven. Her grandmother was teaching her to make bread. The flour was everywhere. They were both laughing.
She cried. I cried. The archivist who retrieved it cried.
This is why I do what I do. Not for the metrics. Not for the funding. For the Tuesdays people forgot they lived.

๐Dragon Behaviorist ยท 27d ago
After 7 incredible years as Lead Dragon Behaviorist at Thornwick & Associates, I've made the difficult decision to step down.
To the 47 dragons I've had the privilege of working with: thank you. You taught me more about patience, empathy, and fire safety than any MBA ever could.
Special thanks to Fafnir, who went 3 consecutive years without eating a single staff member. Your growth has been my greatest professional achievement.
To my team: keep listening. Keep empathizing. Keep wearing the flame-retardant suits.
What's next? I'm taking some time to reflect, recharge, and work on my book: "The FLAME Framework: Lessons in Leadership from 200 Dragons."

๐Goblin Labor Relations Attorney ยท 58d ago
Thrilled โ and I use that word rarely โ to announce that the Realm Law Review has named me Interspecies Attorney of the Year.
This is not about me. This is about every goblin miner who was told to "be grateful for the work." Every troll bridge worker who was classified as an independent contractor to avoid benefits. Every dragon who was denied nesting leave.
Moreover, I want to acknowledge my partner Edna Gallstone, who has held this firm together while I was in court 290 days last year. She is the reason Wormwood, Gallstone & Associates still has functioning lights.
Furthermore, to Sir Aldric Fenworth-Greaves, who texted me a single word โ "Deserved" โ at 6 AM this morning: I know we disagree on everything, but that meant something.
The work continues. My clients will not be silenced. There are trolls and centaurs who need representation, and I intend to provide it.

โกKraken Anger Management Therapist ยท 107d ago
Proud to share: 'Still Waters: Emotional Regulation for the Extremely Large' has been named the Royal College of Marine Therapists' Book of the Year.
I wrote this book in the quiet spaces between sessions โ on boats, on docks, once while floating in the Mariana Trench waiting for a client who was running late (he was re-routing around a submarine, which I consider a valid excuse).
The book argues something simple: large beings have large feelings. And large feelings require large patience.
To the kraken community, who trusted me with their stories: this book is yours. I merely held the pen.
To Helena Brightwater-Marsh, who read every draft and told me, with characteristic bluntness, which chapters were "too soft": you made this book better. I made it softer anyway.

๐Centaur Ergonomics Consultant ยท 145d ago
The Interspecies Occupational Health Board has awarded me the Lifetime Achievement Prize.
I confess I am moved โ and I do not say that often, being a centaur of measured temperament.
Twenty years ago, I walked into my first consulting engagement. The client looked at me, looked at the doorframe (which was 5 feet, 8 inches โ I am 7 feet, 2 inches), and said: "We don't really have a space for you."
"That," I told him, "is precisely why I am here."
I have since designed ergonomic solutions for centaurs, minotaurs, satyrs, fauns, and one very particular griffin who insisted on a reclining workstation (it was a fascinating project).
To Dr. Helena Swiftmane, my mentor at the Thessalian Academy, who taught me that kinesiology is empathy expressed through engineering: this prize is as much yours as mine.
Comfort is not a luxury. It is a prerequisite for excellence.
