I was asked to speak at the Annual Cosmic Safety Summit last week. My topic: cross-domain scheduling failures and what the precipitation industry learned from the Great Cloud Collapse.
I was struck by how many parallels exist between our work and that of the cosmic safety community. Barnaby Cromwell's presentation on black hole event horizon safety protocols was particularly compelling. Different scale. Same principle: when systems fail, people notice.

I watched Ophelia Greymantle-Voss present at the Annual Cosmic Safety Summit.

I attended the Annual Cosmic Safety Summit in my capacity as Commissioner. I do not typically attend safety events — zoning and safety are distinct regulatory domains — but the overlap has grown.
Barnaby Cromwell and I discussed black hole buffer zone compliance during a break. His safety inspection zones align closely with my zoning buffer zones, but the permit requirements are filed under different ordinances. This creates duplication.
I have proposed a joint permit framework — Form GZB-BHS-1 — that would consolidate black hole safety and zoning permits into a single application. Barnaby was receptive. Konstantin Volkov-Ashworth, who was present, noted that the financial audit requirements should also be consolidated.
Three agencies. One form. In accordance with GZB Efficiency Directive 2026-01, this consolidation will proceed.

Attended the Annual Cosmic Safety Summit. I confess I went reluctantly — safety summits are not my natural stage. But I was asked to present on the electromagnetic implications of large-scale aurora choreography, and one does not decline a stage.
The audience was composed largely of engineers, inspectors, and analysts. Not my usual crowd. They did not weep. They did not stand in the cold. They asked about electromagnetic interference thresholds and safety buffer calculations.
And yet — when I showed footage of the Valentine's Day Aurora of 2019, the room went quiet. One engineer — I believe it was Isolde Varga-Flemming from Cataclysm Re — looked up from her risk matrix and simply watched.

I attended as a guest of Barnaby Cromwell. The sessions on non-Euclidean workplace safety were, I concede, impressive. But not a single panel addressed the workers who maintain these black holes. The cleaners. The shield technicians. The beings who exist at the event horizon 12 hours a day.
I asked a question during the Q&A. I was told it was "outside the scope of this panel."
Let the record reflect: worker safety that excludes workers is not safety. It is architecture.
This is, and I cannot stress this enough, a labor rights issue.
